Christian Audigier, street-savvy fashion mogul, shrewd entrepreneur and mastermind behind the legendary Ed Hardy clothing phenomenon recently slammed Victoria Beckham publicly for her signature fashion clothing line VB. Beckham started out designing a small fashion line of jeans with denim label Rock & Republic, and later increased her output by unveiling her full VB collection for British stores Harvey Nichols and Harrods. But the high-end VB line, it seems, does not impress the man behind the Von Dutch and Ed Hardy successes.
The Ed Hardy boss was quoted as saying that he “liked” Victoria Beckham, and that she was a “nice girl”, but simply not his style. He went on to say that he thought her designs were “very simple” and warned that it was difficult for a singer to enter the tough world of fashion. And he should know, since he’s been there, done that, and is still selling the T-shirt – very successfully.
Beckham has not responded publicly to Audigier’s comments, but she should take them seriously considering that the clothing mogul speaks from a wealth of experience. The Ed Hardy brand has carved out a whopping slice of the street couture pie, leaving most of the competition choking on crumbs in its wake. Devotees of the Ed Hardy clothing line are crazy about the label with its graphic imagery based on the designs of Don Ed Hardy, the tattoo genius.
